Guilt is ...This is fascinating and troubling story. Guilt is a topic I find very difficult and murky. It seems to tarnish the innocent; yet evaporate off the truly guilty. I know it myself, for the things I should feel guilty for yet feel nothing, and alternately for the extreme guilt I feel over trifles that I would best forget. On this subject I recommend 'Half a life' by Darin Strauss; and the work of Bernhand Schlink (who is himself a lawyer).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151524728306248440.post-25731982524956610572011-10-20T08:14:43.603+11:002011-10-20T08:14:43.603+11:00What can I say.......that was heart wretching and ...What can I say.......that was heart wretching and emotionally draining for me reading about it, so I can only begin to imagine how you, and later your family felt when learning about what this narcisistic monster did to you. However, I am left wondering, considering the time he did in gaol, was it worth it to go through again what you did?<br />I wish you well, and admire your strength.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151524728306248440.post-26631794047755973032011-05-05T22:54:07.023+10:002011-05-05T22:54:07.023+10:00In approximately TWENTY YEARS, all that has really...In approximately TWENTY YEARS, all that has really changed for women is that men in powerful positions such as deans and police officers, are no longer permitted to "fob off" rape victims as "dirty girls who asked for it". However, in terms of real understanding of the VIOLENT, HORRIFIC AND TRAUMATIC NATURE OF RAPE, which has nothing to do with attraction, and everything to do with POWER and VIOLENCE, nothing much has changed. Crimes that impact severely on the lives of victims, for the rest of their lives, should be treated as such, regardless of how long ago, or "why" the man committed the crime. Women who've endured this, and I am sad to be one of them- I am now 45 and it happened when I was 17- live a life of fear, no matter how old they are, what good man they marry, how many beautiful children they have, and still suffer the agony of not feeling it's Okay to share with the people closest to them. It's very easy to make teenage girls feel "responsible" for the crimes of men, and that teenager lives in us all, for a very long time. A lifetime of fear, and the trauma of reporting and reliving that fear, often ends up just like this- The man suffers what amounts to a slap on the wrist when compared with the suffering of his victim.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151524728306248440.post-70977055757851964722011-05-04T11:00:46.064+10:002011-05-04T11:00:46.064+10:00Thanks for sharing this story. Thanks for sharing this story.zebragirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00248251735345988246noreply@blogger.com
